Brief History of Calistoga 

Much of the Napa Valley was partioned into large ranchos by the Mexican Govt. in 1830’s & 1840’s.  Settlers began arriving in the 1840’s.  Sam Brannan of Gold Rush & San Francisco fame purchased 2,000 acres to start a hot springs resort, it opened to the rich and famous in 1862.  It is now called Indian Springs Resort.

Located in the Upper Napa Valley of Napa County is the town of Calistoga. It is approx. 26 miles north of Napa on Highway 29.

The hottest month of the year is July with an average high temperature of 92 degrees.  The coolest month of the year is December with an average low temperature of 36 degrees. The highest recorded temperature was recorded in July at 111 degrees.  The lowest temperature recorded was in December at 12 degrees. Calistoga an average receives 38 inches of rain per year. The month of the year with the highest precipitation is January.

 Education

The students of Calistoga are served by the Calistoga Joint Unified School District. The schools are Calistoga Elementary School, grades K-6th. Calistoga Elementary School was named a National Blue Ribbon School in 2014.  Calistoga Junior/Senior High School, grades 7-12th.
