I’m sure many of you have heard of the old expression, “You can’t have your cake and eat it too.” Unfortunately most of us have to find out the truth to that statement the hard way. This expression also applies to the always elusive “perfect dream home” of the typical home buyer.
As your real estate agent we want you to dream, we want you to dream big. Our satisfaction comes from putting you in the home you want. But on the flip side our job is to pull you out of the clouds so we can make sure that you actually get into a home that works for you. An exercise that my Father and I like to go through with new buyers is to have them right down 10 different attributes of their dream home. We then narrow it down from there and say “Ok now pick your top 3.”
This exercise actually helps you out in the long run because it will narrow your search to include only those top 3, 4 or 5 attributes instead of just searching on price. Nothing is more frustrating or mentally draining for home buyers than when they find a great home in their price range but its not near the school that they want their kids to go to or its in a bad part of town. The exercise helps you and the agent focus on what really matters to you and helps make the searching process easier. Considering purchasing a new home is stressful enough I’m sure the extra help is welcome to ease it just a little bit.
Oh! I almost forgot to tell you the most important part of the exercise. The list of 10 attributes for your dream home; stick on your refrigerator. Like I said above, dream big, and never be afraid to follow those dreams. Anything in life worth having is hard to get but if you put in the effort you can achieve those 1o attributes.
